Las Vegas Institute

Dr. Sarna has been trained at the prestigious Las Vegas Institute, a continuing education facility built expressly for Dentists. Dr. Sarna has made an extreme commitment to excellence in education and has transfered that passion and knowledge back into Hawthorne Village Dental Care. Dr. Sarna has been involved in a series of intense hands on programs at LVI that provide him with excellent insight and skills in advanced dental techniques and concepts.

Dr. Sarna understands advanced aesthetic concepts that go far beyond what is taught in dental school. As an LVI trained doctor, Dr. Sarna is among the very few in the dental profession who can look at a patient’s complete health situation and very often find the underlying cause that has been overlooked. This allows Dr. Sarna to have remarkable success in treating conditions like migraine and chronic headaches as well as sleep disorders and a variety of other conditions. While not every ailment is caused by a bite problem, Dr. Sarna has helped many patients that suffer, and it is not at all uncommon for our patients to cease taking medications as Dr. Sarna has been able to get to the root cause and prevent further suffering.

Dr. Sarna understands through his extensive training at LVI that your jaw joint, or Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) affects many areas of your body. TMD or Tempormandibular Disorder refers to a broad array of symptoms that can arise from an issue in how the lower jaw functions and rests. The symptoms number in the hundreds and don’t all affect people equally. This makes accurate and consistent diagnosis of the condition very difficult. In fact, the dental profession, physicians and other health care modalities do not understand the importance and affect of the TMJ. Patients with TMJ disorder may suffer from some of the following symptoms:

  • ‘Migraine' pain
  • Facial pain
  • Jaw joint pain
  • Back, neck, cervical pain
  • Postural problems (forward head posture)
  • Pain in the face
  • opening of the mouth (commonly known as “Locked Jaw”)
  • Headaches (tension type)
  • Pain in the muscles surrounding the temporomandibular joints
  • Pain in the occipital (back), temporal (side), frontal (front), or sub-orbital (below the eyes)
  • Pain behind the eyes - dagger and ice pick feelings
  • Multiple bites that feels uncomfortable or, “off,” and continually changing
  • Clenching/bruxing
  • Tender sensitive teeth to cold
  • Deviation of the jaw to one side
  • The jaw locking open or closed
  • Ringing in the ears, ear pain, and ear congestion
  • Sinus like symptoms
  • Dizziness or vertigo
  • Visual Disturbances
  • Tingling in fingers and hands
  • Insomnia -difficulty sleeping

Hidden underneath these symptoms are generally a negative impact on the blood flow to the brain as well as diminished airway and often night-time sleep problems.

Through his Las Vegas Institute Neuromuscular training, Dr. Sarna can objectively evaluate and manage both the hard tissues and the soft tissues and that perspective leads to predictability. By addressing both sides of the dysfunction, the hard and soft tissues, Dr. Sarna is able to help many of our suffering patients get well without medication. Dr. Sarna fixes the problem, not mask it with medication.
